CRA-MAC

The maize research unit of the "Ente CRA" promotes research activities aimed at the improvement of maize by means of genetics. We are particularly focused on the improvement of productivity by means of classic genetics, biochemical, physiological and molecular approaches. Such a research, although expensive, is possible due to the tremendous productivity boost obtained by the use of modern maize hybrids, which allow for a quick cash return of research costs.

Research

Our main research object relates to the acquiry of scientific knowledge and tecnologies regarding the productivity processes of maize, in order to improve its adaptability, the quality of production and to transfer the acquired knowledge to innovative commercial products. The scientific and operational interests of the unit are focused both on basic and applied research related to the improvement of maize through genetics, conducted within the framework of projects with national and european interest.

Thematics

Current research and experimental thematics regard agronomical problematics, variety selection, genetic improvement, production physiology, formal and quantitative genetics, biochimical, physiological and cellular biology, molecular biologia and advanced studies regarding the genomic organization of maize.
